Hi.
My name is Ray Roche and I’m an independent comic book writer from Dublin, Ireland. Together with the help of my wife, we self publish stories for all ages.
As a child growing up in Dublin, comics were either The Beano, The Dandy, or Victor, Battle, War etc. I loved Batman and Superman, finding escape especially in the work of Bob Kane and Bill Finger (Batman). Through their work, I experienced a different style of storytelling.
Several years ago, after years of writing my own stories I finally decided to see my dream become a reality. My first comic, SOMA: EDEN, was released in November 2017. The story is a semi-autobiographical tale of family and loss. Cliched debut? Maybe. Worth it? Definitely.
By day, I’m a civil servant working in law enforcement, An Garda Siochana. A wealth of source material to pull from, they became the subject of my continuing series about the S.S.D.D. Set in an alternative Dublin, Dem Bones tells the story of a pair of detectives from the S.S.D.D (Supernatural and Superhero Detective Division) investigating the reappearance of a serial killer after 25 years. It’s dark. It’s funny. It’s very, very me.
I followed that up with a series kid’s books about farts and poop because what do kids love more than drawing on the walls? Yup, it’s farts and poop.
As for my next adventure into the world of comics, you’ll have to wait and see…
